On Monday we had the flag raising ceremony.
On Thursday we had the taste of Fiji. Our Fijian families brought some Fijian snacks for us to taste. It was very delicious. My favourite was the baked Cassava.
Our art this week was making Fijian fans. We had fun making and designing this with Whaea Makere and Whaea Angela.
Look at all the Fijian fans students made displayed at our school assembly. We had visitors from Manurewa High School Fijian group perform for us.
Whaea Angela brought her dehydrator to class. We made apple chips.
We also made apple doughnuts too.
It was fun cooking with apples. This linked to our unit of Navigating our Harvest.
Apples grow on trees from seeds.
‘Epetoma o te reo Māori Kūki ‘Āirani – Cook Islands Language Week is ‘Ātuitui’ia au ki te au peu o tōku kāinga Ipukarea, which means, “connect me to the traditions & culture of my homeland”.
On Tuesday 1 August all the junior classes, Rooms 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16 walked to Manurewa High school for the invitation of Community Cultural sharing. The Mamas of Glen Inns shared their amazing work of Tivaevae, the Cook Island quilt.
Look at the amazing colours, shapes, sizes and patterns.
Please check out our school facebook page for the LIVE.
Meitaki ma’ata to our beautiful Mamas and Aunty Caroline for organising this community cultural sharing for us all.
We are getting mulch for our plastic container to plant some plants.
We are working together to plant some seedlings.
We are busy being Scientists with Whaea Angela.
We have lots of learning to explore this term.
We will be learning about How do insects navigate to meet their needs?
We want to find out; what are insects? body parts of insects, the life cycle of a Caterpillar and Butterfly, or a Bee. To help understand our itty bitty navigators, we are going on a trip to Butterfly Creek.
We have a new student joining Room 12.
